Baby's Floral Playmat 4.jpg

Having done a good amount of online window shopping, I decided I was ready to try making our own baby playmat. I really liked the circular designs, and practicality of having a wipeable backing (just in case of spills!).

Material was all from Spotlight (the remnant bin has some great stuff) – Cloud cushion from Kmart (just for decoration since baby is not here yet :P).

Next project: to make a portable change-mat clutch!

There are lots of different flowers in the world and we thought baby might like to learn about some of them, along with their numbers.

The Sturt’s Desert Pea was chosen as South Australia’s floral emblem on 23 November 1961.

The Bottlebrush is an Australian native evergreen tree, named after the shape of its distinctive flowers.

Sunflowers have a trait which causes them to face the sun at all times (heliotropism).

Waratahs are able to survive fires due to dominant buds in their lignotuber, a woody swelling at their base.

Poppies were unable to grow on war fields for four seasons after WW1, but subsequently proliferated over the battlefields of France and Belgium, making them a symbol of remembrance for those who died in the war.

The Calla Lily has poisonous roots and is native to South Africa, where it is actually considered a weed.
